McLaren explains 'exceptional' double failure in China
Both McLaren drivers failed to start the Chinese GP due to critical, unrelated faults in the same electrical power unit component. Team boss Andrea Stella described the dual failure as highly unusual, forcing a full investigation with engine partner HPP to prevent a recurrence.
McLaren suffered a disastrous double Did Not Start (DNS) at the Chinese Grand Prix, with both Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri unable to begin the race due to separate but related terminal failures of the same electrical component within their Mercedes power units. Team Principal Andrea Stella called the simultaneous failures "exceptional and uncharacteristic," marking a severe setback for the team's 2026 campaign.
