Albert Park Pit Complex Upgrade Reaches Key Milestone

The latest phase of Albert Park's pit building redevelopment is complete, allowing early dismantling of the Fangio Grandstand. The project modernizes infrastructure to keep the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne through 2037.

The latest stage of the Albert Park pit building upgrades has been completed, enabling the dismantling of the Fangio Grandstand to begin earlier than planned. Development Victoria confirmed the milestone, noting that the loudest phase of construction is now finished.

Why it matters:

Originally built in 1995, the Albert Park pit complex was among the oldest and smallest on the F1 calendar. The redevelopment ensures Melbourne's circuit meets modern Formula 1 standards and secures the race's future through its current contract ending in 2037.

The details:

  • The Fangio Grandstand remained longer than usual after the 2026 Australian Grand Prix to reduce noise from piling works for nearby residents.
  • Independent acoustic advice supported the decision, but with demolition and piling now complete, the stand can be dismantled by late June.
  • Upcoming works include in-ground services, bulk excavation, crane operations, and concrete pours as construction ramps up.
  • Night works will continue through the remainder of 2026, with noise monitored and minimized where possible.

What's next:

  • A temporary Paddock Club and new garages are expected to be operational for the 2027 Australian Grand Prix.
  • Full redevelopment of the pit complex is scheduled for completion ahead of the 2028 event.
  • Sections of Aughtie Drive and the Albert Park cycling network will remain affected through 2028, and angled parking in front of the old pit building returns after the 2028 race.
